About 5 years ago I started experimenting with plastic bags. Specifically layering them in between parchment paper and fusing them with an iron. Realizing this created a durable, lightweight material that could easily be sewn together, I started making accessories out of this fused plastic and ecoLizard by ann was born.

About 5 years ago I started experimenting with plastic bags. Specifically layering them in between parchment paper and fusing them with an iron. Realizing this created a durable, lightweight material that could easily be sewn together, I started making accessories out of this fused plastic and ecoLizard by ann was born.
Now I make a variety of handbags, backpacks, shoulderbags, totes, and accessories made entirely out of fused grocery store and retail store bags. One of my smaller bags takes approximately 65 plastic bags to make. Some of my larger totes contain close to 90 plastic bags. Plastic bags are usually discarded and then either enter our landfills or our marine ecosystems. These bags are rarely recycled and most city recyclers spend large amounts of time and money removing plastic bags from their recyclables stream, where bags jam machinery and add to the labor costs of recycling. Not only are my bags beautifully made but they are also eco-chic and are keeping a small portion of plastics from ending up in a landfill or marine eco-system.

My upcycled bags have stunning details that make them so unique. I have started experimenting with alcohol based inks and have been painting interesting designs directly on the fused plastic. A variety of sewing techniques are applied to my bags as well including, applique, quilting, embroidery and beading. My favorite is finding vintage plastic bags with really cool designs that end up making an awesome one-of-a-kind handbag, clutch, or tote.

In the Fall of 2020, I made a hand embroidered felt ornament of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I received tremendous positive feedback about it and requests for purchase of RBG came pouring in. With the success of my newly made RBG ornament, I decided to design more ornaments; more ornaments of strong women. So Frida, Dolly, Greta, Kamala and Sta

Upcycling thrifted finds is also a passion of mine. Bedspreads, chenelle robes, blue jeans, velour robes, shirts, dresses, you name it and I'll upcycle it into a cool hat or bag!
